Summer is just around the corner, and you will while you should enjoy your time off, you never get to take a vacation from brushing your teeth.
If you are hitting the road this summer, you should make sure that you have a copy of your dental insurance card, and a business card from your dentist, in case you need to call them during a dental emergency. You may want to let your dentist know that you will be travelling and ask them if they can recommend any dentists at your destination.
If you are in for a long drive, make sure that you pack plenty of water to drink instead of soft drinks or sports drinks. You will also want to have plenty of tooth-friendly snacks, such as celery, carrots and apples. Not only are these snacks healthy, but they will also clean your teeth as you eat them. When you make a pit-stop, why not take two minutes to brush your teeth? If you will be flying, pack travel toothbrushes and a travel-sized tube of toothpaste in case you need to brush your teeth during a layover.
You should make sure that your toothbrush has its own bag and a spot in your luggage. And, when you are travelling, you will want to bring toothpaste that has a flip top, and not a cap that you may drop on the bathroom floor. Another good idea is to bring a clothes pin for every member of the family. You can use one to prop up your toothbrush so it can dry, without letting it touch the bathroom counter.
Of course, before you leave, why not schedule an appointment for a cleaning and exam with our dentist, Dr. Greg Sefcik? After all, no one wants a toothache while trying to enjoy a vacation!
